The Role of the Stewards of the Turf Club

On the racecourse, the Stewards have the responsibility of policing the Rules Of Racing. There must be a minimum of three and a maximum of five (including a Chairperson) Stewards for every racemeeting. The Stewards of the Governing Bodies have power to appoint an Official (known as a Stipendary Steward) with the powers of a Steward of the meeting to act either as one of, or in addition to, the number of Stewards required under the Rule. In the event of there being an equality of votes, the Chairperson will have two votes.
