Charitable Trusts
As part of its remit The Turf Club administers a number of charitable funds.
These are as follow ;-
The Drogheda Memorial Fund, which was set up in 1893, was established for the permanent and temporary relief of trainers and riders who find themselves in poor circumstances whether from age, sickness, accident or misfortune. It also provides funds for the widows and children of such people. Income for the fund is derived from a portion of the fees for Jockeys Licences, Qualified Riders (Amateur) Licences, Trainers Licenses and from voluntary donations.
The Jockeys Accident Fund was set up for the benefit of jockeys/apprentices injured either in races or in the schooling of horses. Income for the fund is derived from owners and jockeys subscriptions as well as stake percentages won by Qualified Riders and from voluntary donations.
The Qualified Riders Accident Fund was set up for the benefit of qualified riders licensed by the INHS committee. Again it provides for injuries received while riding in official races. Income from the fund is derived from qualified riders Registration Fees, Qualified Riders Levies, Point to Point Riders Levies and Owners Levies and from voluntary donations.
The Jockeys Emergency Fund was set up on the 1st January 1998, to provide benefit and assistance for riders who suffer paralysis as a result of an injury sustained while taking part in a racing/horse related activity. Contributions to this fund come from Owners, a portion of the fees for Jockeys Licences, Qualified Riders (Amateur) Licences and from voluntary donations.
